Even staff here complained that SoP was no good, and this stuff is their livelihood! I don't understand how more communication like this from any platform manufacturer is a waste of time. They told us to not expect fireworks so to speak. Sony told people not to expect too much, after all it was a month after a big Sony show. Thu 28th Oct it's kind of pathetic and entitled.Personally I prefer they shine a light on smaller devs and titles over seeing trailer #8 for call of duty or battlefield. But not every show needs to be a huge 8+/10 endeavour. Yes it could have been more balanced and maybe lacked another larger announcement to bookend it e.g. For a short 20 minute third party show there were some nice announcements. Yes it 100% could have been better, no doubt, but I thought they appropriately set expectations, with little fanfare. Shining a light on smaller and niche indies is no longer justified? I’m sure it makes a great difference to those smaller teams and games to have some higher profile exposure than a blog post.Ī) When they concentrate on the AAA or main stream indies, gamers and media accuse them of being single minded, forgetting their roots and bad for indies.ī) Highlight small indies and niche titles and gamers + media say ‘why did they do this? Not what “I” wanted’ Appreciate they were upfront (somewhat) and calibrated expectations prior to the event, but just not sure I fully understand how they justified that internally.” Thu 28th Oct “Don't understand why they did this really.Having said that, tonight's show wasn't the most exciting, so it just might not have been your cup of tea. Just not 3 or 4 a month like I did in my 20s). (Although I will get a few games during the year now too. I had to quit playing for a year straight before I could remember how I used to enjoy games as a kid - Get a game for birthday and a game for Christmas, ones that I really know I'll love, then play the crap out of them. PS Plus, Game Pass, Microsoft's "Normalise Playing Ten Games At Once" campaign. It happens more and more because we play more and more. They become jaded and burned out, and they can't enjoy games at all anymore. Without making any assumptions about your gaming habits, the issue with most other folk I talk to about this is that, many people buy whatever big game is in the charts because it scores 9/10 and gets to #1, or they buy a game and play it because their friends are playing it, but they never stop to consider if it's something they would actually enjoy playing. Wed 27th Oct I have to respond to this, because I've seen a lot of people saying this in the past few years. It's hardly the end of the world, and it's always fun to see new games. There was very little in that show tonight for me, but that's okay.

My point is, it's hard to know how to gauge these reactions. I'm not trying to dismiss anyone's complaints here. Then other people complained about the pacing of it. Massive games, but because those games were not for them it was a terrible show. People still complained even though KoToR and Wolverine were dropped. Saying that, look at the heavy hitters that were revealed at the last State of Play. Maybe Sony could have done more to let people know in advance that it would mostly be indies? But even then they didn't hype this up that much, and they do have advertising obligations with some of their partners. It seems like a lot of people approach these shows expecting that there will always be something for them, or that there will be something to match an E3 2015 level reveal, and then afterwards there's always a very vocal group that are disappointed. really? Well 75% of us capable of objectivity regarding Sony, see that for the steaming pile it was. For those that are defending Sony no matter what as always.

Half baked effort, terrible PS plus games for months, and state of plays that are terrible and usually just a really passive way to release negative information regarding exclusivity, release delays, and temper expectations based on earlier false claim.īut wow, this SOP is a new low. No effort needed and that's exactly what they are doing. They saw that demand for their console was so high, they were like ok boys and girls we can just sit back and rake in the cash. Sony has just completely phoned it in at this point. I mean Little Devil inside looks cute, but come on. So you decide you should create a state of play during the holidays season to drum up additional hype by showing friggin bugsnax and whatever else most of that nonsense was?! You have nothing releasing for the Holiday, you have nearly ZERO next gen exclusives on the Horizon.
